Ebou Barry, Bird Guide with Bird Tours Gambia

The Official Bird Guide - Ebou Barry - at Bird Tours Gambia has been birding from an early age since 1998.

Equipped with a pair of binoculars and Clive Barlow’s ‘A Field Guide to Birds of The Gambia and Senegal.’, Ebou soon developed into his interest into a passion and became an expert in identification of birds.

Ebou turned his passion into a career as an official Bird Guide in the Gambia, and has established himself as a well-known and trusted member of the birding fraternity, with many good contacts around the country in nature parks and other birding areas.

Ebou was one of the original Bird Guide operating from Kotu Bridge, at a time when there were only around 20 Bird Guides in The Gambia. Today, there are over 300 ‘bird guides’, some of which do not have training, so be warned!

A word of advice from Ebou - Book your trips before you leave for your holiday with an Experienced Gambian Bird Guide, rather than be harassed outside your hotel. Ebou can arrange to meet you at your hotel on your arrival to discuss any terms and conditions for your trips with him.

Friendly, enthusiastic and fluent in English, Ebou has a extremely good understanding of the behaviour and habitats of birds in the Gambia, and has a superb ability to be able to identify species from long distances, recognise and even imitate calls.

Ebou runs a 7-seater Mistubishi 4-wheel drive, which enables him to easily take tour groups of up to 6 people anywhere in the Gambia. (Larger groups can be arranged, even with short notice).

Ebou can cater for the birder with a desire to see particular uncommon species; with his wealth of contacts and other bird guides throughout the Gambia, locations can be found to accommodate these special requests.

Ebou’s knowledge and interest of birds extends beyond the Gambia, with a particular preference to British birds. He has experienced bird-watching in Britain, and also attended the Bird Watching Fair at Rutland Waters in Leicestershire.

Bird Guide Ebou Barry is in his early thirties and unmarried.
